šŸ’¬ Replied to: Introducing the new HTML element - welcome !

ā€œHello! It looks like you’re writing a blog post – would you like help with that? chuckles Me and my colleagues at Microsoft have decided that the world needs more Clippy – the adoā€¦ā€

@edent (Terence Eden’s Blog)

The thing for me, putting aside whether the <toast> element is a worthwhile addition or not, is this _feels_ like the plays Microsoft used to make in the Internet Explorer 4/5/6 days. I remember working on the web in that time, and it was *horrible*. I don’t wan’t to go back to anything like it was in those days, where dominant marketshare led companies to think they knew best and could do whatever they wanted with the standards.

The thinking then was the same as now – ā€œwe think this is useful, and if other browsers want to the web to remain interoperable, like they say they do, then it’s on them to implement this whether they agree with us or notā€. No prior discussion and coming to a consensus with all stakeholders like how the web is supposed to work… just ā€œwe have the most users, so we’re doing this regardless.ā€

Had quite a productive evening so far… freshly cooked dinner in my new skillet, prepped breakfast + lunch for tomorrow, and replaced my leaky shower. Might manage to do some hobby next šŸ‘

If I come across as grumpy with anyone in the next few days, I’m sorry, and it’s (probably) not intentional… I’m changing my diet to severely limit sugar and it’s been a bit of a struggle so far. I’m sure it’ll all be fine again once the cravings subside šŸ‘

Marks & Spencer’s have added a ā€œMeat’zzaā€ (think pizza, but replace the dough with meat) and now I’m wondering if this is the thing to get me to go keto… šŸ¤”

One day I’ll be able to administer a dose of piriton without spilling a spoonful all over the floor/my beard.

Today was not that day.

Everyone in the office has been forced to move to a new database developer tool, as it was decided not to renew the license on the old tool some people have been using for several years by now. The amount of ā€œwho moved my stuff?ā€ that’s happening is a little amusing… but as someone who has been using the ā€œnewā€ tool for a few years, I’m getting *a lot* of questions already!

I started building my GSC using just the stuff in my ā€œbacklogā€. I keep finding myself just short of a full unit… 4 Neophytes here, a Hypermorph there… and, well, there are never enough heavy rock saws!

Yeah, that’s the big feature for me. Being able to seamlessly create throwaway email addresses will be so useful!

Apple going big on privacy protections again. Location data protections and anonymous ā€œsign-in with Appleā€ are both features I’ll use. #WWDC

The new Reminders app looks so much more useful than the current iteration. #WWDC

Swipe to type is probably the feature I’ve wanted in iOS for the longest time. Glad to hear it’s finally coming in iOS 13.

Proper game controller support is being added to AppleTV. That could be huge, if game devs jump onboard.

I’ve been running Firefox in "Strict" mode for content blocking all weekend, on both phone and desktop. It’s amazing/disheartening just how many things break, on e-commerce sites in particular, when you block trackers. Not turning it off though #FixYourSite

I signed up to a Mastodon instance so I can test how my posts come through at @chris@mrkapowski.com. I don’t really plan on using Mastodon much, but if you’re on an instance, or your site is available through ActivityPub, let me know and I’ll follow you

I need to finish my Knight by Friday evening. Chances were slim already, but I’m so tired tonight I’m struggling to keep my eyes open šŸ˜‘

So… that Death Stranding trailer, huh?

Utterly barking mad.

Thinking with my colour theory hat on: if you were to zenithal the ā€œwarmā€ GW #Contrast primer over the ā€œcoldā€ one, you could end up with some nice, natural, effects: warm, brighter, highlights, with cooler, slightly desaturated shadows. One to experiment with šŸ¤”

I’m only 52 away from 1000 published posts. I also have a backlog of 485 pending "legacy" posts to review and publish. Conceivably, I could hit 1500 published posts by the end of the year.

I’ve got a weird issue with Safari on iOS, where it’s deleting the cookie for the PHP sessions generated by my server after 20 minutes or so, even though I’ve set an explicit expiry a month in the future. It’s mostly affecting my Monocle installation, and it’s becoming a irritation to have to constantly login.

It doesn’t happen on the main ā€œpublicā€ instance, or in desktop browsers, so it’s something specific to my setup that Safari doesn’t like.

Does anyone have a recommendation for Mastodon instances and/or iOS clients? I’m considering giving it another try.

I don’t trust Twitter with my phone number, but they mandate a verified number if you want to work with their API, or even if you just want to turn on 2FA. So for now, I can’t setup some test apps, or fully secure my account.

The API thing I sorta get, even if it’s inconvenient for privacy-minded folks, but the 2FA thing makes no sense. SMS 2FA has been discouraged for years at this point. There’s no security need to ask for the phone number, other than to harvest it as another data profile identifier.

Isn’t it always the way? Start creating a Pull Request, then halfway through reviewing everything before submission, you find a bug…

Speaking of moving away from Feedly, I really should start adding more of the sites I follow through RSS to Aperture. I’d been holding off due to a few reasons, one of which was the lack of ā€œmark all as readā€ button (which I use diligently in Feedly)… but that’s hopefully about to be a non-issue ?

It’s very warm today (for this time of year). Almost uncomfortably so. It’s sapping all will to *do* things. I’m hiding from the sun, in the office at the back of the house; it’s nice, shaded, and cool(er) here, but not helping me get those Knights painted ?
